Katana Sushi
About This Spot
Stepping into Katana Sushi in Midlothian feels like entering a familiar pause in the day—a place where the hum of casual conversation blends gently with the quiet clinks of chopsticks on plates. It’s the kind of spot where time slows just enough to appreciate the care behind each roll and the small gestures from an attentive, warm staff that knows many faces by heart. The atmosphere carries a gentle, unpretentious charm, a little worn around the edges yet full of honest moments and subtle smiles.
Here, the experience unfolds not just through taste but through the rhythm of thoughtful service and shared appreciation for fresh, well-crafted Japanese dishes. Whether you’re settling in with a platter that showcases a spectrum of textures and flavors or enjoying a quiet lunch box with company, there’s a sense that every bite is part of a quietly considered ritual.
On a menu that respects classic preparations while inviting small discoveries—from vibrant rolls layered with color and flavor to comforting bowls of noodles and fresh sashimi—the food harmonizes with the easygoing mood. It’s comfort within refinement, built around dishes that feel both familiar and a touch unexpected. Pairing well with good conversation or a quiet moment alone, Katana offers an experience rooted in attentive hospitality and steady quality rather than flash.
For those who have returned time and again, it has become more than a sushi restaurant—it's a reliable pause where the staff’s genuine care and the sincere warmth of the room invite visitors into a quietly joyful culinary ritual. It’s not about extravagance, but about feeling welcome, enjoying thoughtfully prepared food, and discovering new favorites at a measured, comfortable pace.

The decor is a little dated but the best Japanese food places I have been to between the US and Japan have always been that way. I don't know why. This place is no exception. The staff is warm, friendly and happy to help whenever you need. When my wife stole my ginger they noticed, asked if we wanted more and brought her a whole dish. We went on a random weekday for lunch and the staff made sure we left full and satisfied. Will be back 1000%

We’ve been going to Katana for many years and will continue to go for many more. Service is always good and their food is always fresh and delicious regardless of whether you’re dining in or carrying out. We go here a least once a month. My partner and I usually get the Katana special which offers a variety of variety of sashimi, nigiri and roll. I’ve also tried their other rolls before and they all are delicious!

We eat sushi fairly consistently and this one stands out as the best one close by. Sushi is very good and higher quality than most. Good appetizer options like the tuna tataki are worth a try. Servers are mostly the same person every visit and helps to know what service you will receive, which is good. I could go on and on about my personal preferences but it's tough to go by as what people like for sushi varies widely. I would suggest this to anyone and I can't say that about many sushi places I have been to.

Amazing service, fantastic variety (usually 2 kinds of uni and cobia/hamachi kama). Decent prices for the exceptional food. This is the best sushi restaurant in Richmond. If you like a place that looks fancy, this isn't that - but it's the only downside to an amazing food experience.

this is without a doubt the best sushi in Richmond and it’s not even close. All of the fish is fresh and delicious. They even have specialty cuts like chu toro and o toro. considering the quality of Sushi I am blown away by how affordable this price is. I cannot recommend this place enough. For those that arent big Raw fish fans, the cooked rolls are phenomenal and my wife loves them.10 out of 10! You will not find better sushi in Richmond

This restaurant is absolutely phenominal, and at its price point, it might be the best sushi restaurant in the area. I've never seen such generous cuts of sashimi. The fish also tastes extremely fresh. I can see why they have an almost perfect rating.

We got three special rolls for about $50, and they were all delicious! The Maryland, the Kenny and the Butterfly, listed in order of our favorites. Service was attentive and friendly. Can't wait to go back and try more!
